Slugfest

(on Saudi Peace Initiative)

Deaf even to Colin Powell's appeals,
Ariel Sharon again digs in his heels,
Therefore must Arafat remain indoors,
Although the Arab League pursues good cause:

To tender Israel peaceful relations
If Palestine be made a sovereign nation,
But Israel, to protract the war's outcome,
Waits for a ceasefire that will never come.

So David's Star by false flag masquerades,
Expansionist control and bullying raids,
Force-feeds humiliation's daily bread,
Provokes extremism in error led.

Collective punishment appears the creed
So Palestinians hatch hatred's seed.
Such Jewish stubbornness reaps its reward:
"Ye are a stiff-necked people," [1] saith the Lord.

But Arafat, for his part, too oft winks
When time again the landscape freshly drinks ‑
By hell-bent bombers' acts of suicide ‑
The blood of Jews in wanton genocide.

So in Netanya, woman, child, and man
Are slain instead of the Passover lamb.
Some on both sides, to mutual disgrace,
Seek to obliterate the other race.

Although the captive chairman meekly tried
To curb the terrorists, his hands are tied,
A useless figurehead in leader's guise
Though peaceful overture on him relies.

Sharon and Arafat are worlds apart,
Implacable in hatred from the start,
Yet this in common have they fostered more:
That they are allies in inciting war.
