Roll Call

Bush beams with brightened countenance
            On the start-up entrepreneur.
Apparently you're the favored one,
            Our economy to stir:

A seeming beneficiary
            Of this tax-cutting president.
So hail the men of enterprise
            Who set this precedent:

There's Paul Revere the silversmith,
            Paul Bunyan chopping wood,
Frontiersman Daniel Boone at large,
            Johnny Appleseed of fruit-bearing wood.

But a different modern archetype
            Bush's rhetoric tends to evoke:
He sidles beside you in Washington Square
            And whispers "smoke, smoke, smoke".
