Rightquest

(on the death of Chief Justice William Rehnquist, September 2005)

When high priest Joshua before the angel
Heard Satan's accusation, God replied
"The Lord rebuke you, Satan!" For the devil,
Accuser of the Brethren day and night,
Is no match for the Lamb of God, He who
Stands at the right hand of the one in need
To save his life from those who condemn him.
From this, most sovereign of all courts, we learn
That Mercy seasons Justice, but Judge Rehnquist,
That pharisee supreme, dyed-in-the-wool
Racist, opponent of the disadvantaged,
Election-fixer, champion of polluters,
Is now arraigned before the divine throne
Where, though he cry "Lord, Lord," shall be disowned.
