Ode to Tea & Sympathy
(Sonnet in tribute to this English restaurant in New York)
The maidens of this mad metropolis
From every nation on our soil alight,
Yet fellas in Manhattan can not miss
How girls of Tea & Sympathy delight.
Anita, Carol, Alice, and Louise,
Julie and Lindsey, Nancy, Amy, Claire,
All testify an English lass can please.
Britannia boasts her bit-of-alright rare.
Hot steamy offerings to sate each wish,
On spotted dick, lashings of custard swathed,
Edible fingers served up on a dish,
Discerning tongues in such delights are bathed.
Though New York boasts all manner of hot strumpet,
I'll always leave some room for English crumpet.
