Murdrimony

(on NYPD killing of Sean Bell on the eve of his wedding)

Her nuptial morn awaking,
The bride to be thinks on her love, hopes
The hours linger in her lover's arms
In consummate affection when day
To blessèd, blessèd night returns, enfolds
The eternal couple. But the bachelor
In ritual celebration of this life to come,
Woke not to share the belovèd's dream.
That mutilated dawn her husband-to-be
Was slain, riddled with bullets
By New York's Finest, the NYPD.
