Europud

(on George W. Bush's current tour of Europe
and "mooning" by Swedish protesters)

Bush proudly waves the U.S. flag abroad
In true Texan tradition, shooting first
Then asking questions. So amid discord,
The nations are in missile-talk immersed:

Hoping that Bush's yen for toxic gas
Stops short of mushroom clouds. Even the Swedes
Break out to openly revolt en masse
While France and Germany decry his deeds.

The Vikings had foresworn rampaging ways
But as our leader's reputation reek,
Now reenact the rites of ancient days
And burn the U.S. flag with barefaced cheek.

Bush calls all this "new receptivity"
And samples Belgian chocolate in their land,
But like a Hershey next to Cadbury,
He's selling Europe a substandard brand.

With Wim, [1] Romano, [2] Vaclav, [3] and Goeran, [4]
There George is rubbing shoulders gleefully -
Type of the true ugly American,
Hawking the Bush style of diplomacy:

When you become a byword to the nations
And your pronouncements provoke Europe's pique,
To soften international relations,
You must more slowly and much louder speak.
