Court Caught

(on the February 2005 verdict against attorney Lynne Stewart)

Derived from the dragon's authority,
The beast, empowered to utter blasphemy,
Triumphing through belligerence or bribe
Over all peoples, language, nation, tribe,

Made war against the saints. [1] How proud today
He struts, having condemned to put away
A champion of the poor and destitute
And role model of courage resolute

Who, faithful in the deeds Scripture require,
Defender of the outcast and pariah,
In emulation of the Lord Messiah,
Has won her prominence in Heaven's choir.

For the accuser of her sisterhood
Relentlessly (as an accuser would), [2]
The charge of terrorism to infer,
Before a jerry-rigged courtroom brought her.

Cheering the false conviction was a man
Who, steeped in blood, his cursed career began
As counsel to a Texan overlord
And shall, in time, receive his due reward.

Until then, he enjoys his earthly gain,
Gloating over the innocence he's slain,
Proving, as he accumulates sin's wage, [3]
No good deed goes unpunished in this age.

Sanctioning torture, illegal internment,
Recipient of undeserved preferment,
Heaping upon himself the hottest coals,
Decrying the defendant's "murderous goals,"

He never brooked a clemency petition,
Sealed his eternal future in perdition.
Alberto Gonzales, our new AG,
Here comes to you a Heaven-sent prophecy:

Lynne Stewart, whom you unjustly condemned,
To everlasting glory shall ascend,
A righteous soul who'll take her stand in grace
While you lie howling in the other place. [4]
